There are several other uses of the preterite tense in Spanish:

1. To express a series of completed actions in the past: The preterite tense can be used to describe a series of events that took place in the past, such as a sequence of actions that were completed one after the other.

For example: "Me desperté, me vestí, y salí de la casa" (I woke up, got dressed, and left the house).

2. To describe a sudden or unexpected event in the past: The preterite tense can also be used to describe an event that happened suddenly or unexpectedly, and had a clear beginning and end.

For example: "De repente, comenzó a llover" (Suddenly, it started to rain).

3. To indicate the beginning or end of a past action: The preterite tense can be used to describe the start or end of a past action or event, such as

For example :"Empecé a estudiar español hace tres años" (I started studying Spanish three years ago).

4. In addition, many words in Spanish are commonly used with the preterite tense. Here are a few examples:

Ayer (yesterday)
Anoche (last night)
La semana pasada (last week)
El mes pasado (last month)
Hace dos días (two days ago)
Una vez (once)
De repente (suddenly)
Entonces (then)
Por fin (finally)

Keep in mind that the context of a sentence and the speaker's intention can also affect the use of the preterite tense in Spanish.

Some verbs take on a different meaning when they used in the preterit tense or imperfect tense.
